In June, the day before Father's Day, my dad experienced a cardiac arrest while running a road race in Hopkinton. He required CPR and defibrillation on scene before being transferred to Metro-West Medical Center where he received world-class care by both the nurses and physicians. He was in a medically induced coma for five days before a cardiac catheterization determined that he would need cardiac surgery. My mother and I anticipated a transfer to one of the “big Boston hospitals,” BWH or MGH, when his cardiologist recommended Tufts Medical Center. Upon this recommendation, my Dad was transferred to Tufts for his coronary artery bypass surgery. While there, I witnessed firsthand the advanced and compassionate care that Tufts provides. It is clear that Tufts combines cutting-edge medicine with a deep passion for the person and family behind the diagnosis. I would like to support Team Tufts MC as a way to spread the word about this exceptional institution while providing a huge thank you to the organization that allowed my dad to continue to do what he loves. In September, he finished a 5K-road race in our hometown which I like to call “Dad’s Debut.”
After running the NYC Marathon in 2016, I figured I would be in marathon retirement for a while as I had just finished my fourth marathon and had completed three of the six world marathon majors. Competing in all six marathon majors is at the top of my bucket list. However, completing a Boston Marathon is at the top of my Dad’s, so this one is for him!
