Why did I choose Team Tufts MC
On April 16, 2018, I will join thousands in running the Boston Marathon. This is not my first marathon; however, it is my first BOSTON Marathon. I will be running and raising money for Tufts Medical Center as a way to give back to all the doctors and nurses who had a hand in saving my mom's life, specifically those who worked with my mom in the Michael Neely Neuroscience Center.
Early October 2016, my mother was rushed to the hospital for what we thought were symptoms related to the flu she was recovering from the week before. She spent the day sleeping, and my father spent the day continually checking in to see how she was feeling. Around dinner time he felt uneasy as he couldn’t wake her up and called 911. Once in the ambulance, the paramedics couldn't wake her, which baffled everyone. We met the ambulance at the emergency room. After a brain scan, my dad, my sisters and I learned that she had a brain bleed due to a brain aneurysm that had burst. This news hit us like a ton of bricks with the uncertainty of what would happen to my mom. As we attempted to wrap our tired minds around what was going on, she was rushed to Tufts Medical Center to the Michael Neely Neuroscience unit where she spent 35 days in intensive care. For six of those days, she was in critical care. After her time at Tufts, she was released to a rehab center for 19 days.
During that time, our family spent countless hours in waiting rooms hoping for additional information about her progress, and any glimmer that she was going to remember us when she recovered. We are very fortunate to have her alive and well. Today she is very much the same mom, wife, daughter, auntie, grammy, and sister she was before the aneurysm. And I give that credit to the amazing staff of doctors and nurses at Tufts and am thankful to them that she WILL be at the Boston Marathon cheering me on as she always has!
My family and I cannot think of a better way to give back and express our gratitude than to be a part of this charity! Please help me in my effort to give back to Team Tufts.
Please help and support me in trying to exceed my goal of 6,000 by making a donation!
