India is one of the world's fastest growing economies. While we're growing rapidly, there are a lot of issues that the country faces. One of the issues is not being able to control the population of stray dogs that keeps increasing each year. An estimated 35 million stray dogs live in India. Their number is constantly on the rise due to a sluggish sterilisation drive. The administration is to blame for not pushing animal control policies, including spaying and neutering. There are a lot of dogs that die everyday on the streets and never get to reach the shelter where they can be cared for. The shelters built by the government lacks infrastructure to support the stray population, medical facilities and the finance to cater to their basic needs on an everyday basis. These shelters are flooded with strays crammed into small cages because there is no space to keep them anywhere.
The aim of my campaign to raise money for the shelter, starting with the one in my hometown Chandigarh, India. With the money raised, we aim to buy medicines, pedigree, food bowls, improve the infrastructure and employ staff that can be a helping hand. The ultimate goal is have an online portal where these dogs can be adopted but that can only happen if they are healthy and fit and for that I need help to raise funds to help them.
