Giving Season is here and what better way to celebrate it’s joy and love than to support our peaceful, cooperative, sister species: the bonobo. This year the Bonobo Conservation Initiative is on a mission to raise awareness and raise much-needed funds to protect the bonobos and their home in the Congo rainforest! These amazing great apes are endangered, and one of the biggest threats facing them is that almost no one knows they exist. Let’s change that!
Right now, BCI is participating in the Newman‘s Own Foundation $500K Holiday Challenge. The organization that raises the most money between now and Jan. 3, 2018 wins a $150,000 cash prize! With your help we can get there!
There are only about 15,000 bonobos remaining in the wild, and their population is declining every day. Our goal is to gain 15,000 supporters, one for every bonobo. If everyone gives just $20, that will be $300,000 for the bonobos--and a chance for the grand prize! Funds will support the creation of new protected areas spanning two million acres of vital bonobo habitat and will help sustain our field operations throughout the Peace Forest.
What we do:
Inspired by the collaborative nature of bonobos, we developed the Bonobo Peace Forest in partnership with Congolese organizations and communities. The Peace Forest is a network of locally-managed nature reserves that provides safe haven for bonobos, as well as sustainable sources of income, educational opportunity, and lifesaving services to indigenous communities. Large areas of rainforest are shielded from logging, poaching, and other threats, ensuring that bonobos can thrive within a protected habitat corridor. The Bonobo Peace Forest builds more than reserves; it builds a conservation-centered way of life.
What Your Donation Will Do:
Time is running out for the bonobos. Now is your chance to help save a species—and a vast area of rainforest. Every single person can make a difference. Large donations are amazing and can accomplish so much; we can accept donations up to $10,000 per transaction. Every donation, no matter what the amount, gets us closer to our goal. Here are some examples of how your generosity can be put into action:
$10—batteries for tracker headlamps and GPS units
$25—a pair of sturdy rubber boots for a field team member
$50—a high quality daypack
$100—one monthly salary for an eco-guard or tracker
$500—one field laptop kit
$1000—college scholarship for an aspiring Congolese conservationist
$5000—one motorcycle, essential for travel and transport in the field
$10000—construction of one conservation center in the bonobo habitat
And of course every donation brings us closer to the grand prize! Each and every dollar counts, and so does each and every supporter. Please spread the word about bonobos and this awesome opportunity to help them. We need to work together to save our primate cousins! Help us reach our goal of $300,000 and help bonobos reach a brighter tomorrow. Thank you!
