We are competing in an Iron-[Wo]man Race on August 18th to raise money for The Brave House! Please consider donating $33 today, as 1 in 3 of all women (33%) will experience sexual violence in their lifetime.
We've set our total goal at $30,000, so we can hire a Legal Advocate for our team at The Brave House. We are a non-profit providing legal and holistic services to immigrant women. Growing our staff will help us advocate for the rights of these young women and fiercely advocate for their humanitarian protections. Right now, Lauren is the only full-time employee at The Brave House. While we have an army of amazing volunteers, she could use some help.
Lauren (Founder and Executive Director) and Kevin (Creative Director) will be running the Iron-[Wo]man as a relay team - together covering 140.62 miles. Lauren is running 26.2 miles, and Kevin is swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112 miles.
As an incentive to donate to our campaign, we've organized an incredible line-up of fun fitness events leading up to the big Race Day - including 2 spin classes, a yoga workshop in Prospect Park, a self-defense class, and a bike challenge taking place over the Brooklyn Bridge. sign up here!
By donating $300+ or $1,000+, you will become a *Brave Builder* (silver and gold levels) and be recognized on our site and materials.
Please consider joining in on the fun and supporting our cause. We could not do this without all of your support. Together, let's dive in, spin our wheels, and get The Brave House up and running!
* If we reach $60,000, we can make this position full-time + include amazing benefits. If we reach $100,000, we can hire a full time Legal Advocate AND launch our community center. An Iron-[Wo]man is an ambitious race, and calls for ambitious goals!
About the Brave House.
The Brave House supports immigrant girls, ages 16-21, in New York who are survivors of gender-based violence. We provide free legal support, community space, and holistic services, including mental health counseling, career advising, English lessons, art therapy, meditation, dancing, and much more. The Brave House is currently housed in the Urban Justice Center through their Social Justice Accelerator program.
Girls across the world continue to face abuse and discrimination due to their gender. Repeated incidents of abuse such as intra-familial sexual assault, rape by gang members, and forced child labor, cause girls to flee their country out of fear for their lives. They embark on the treacherous journey to the United States, often alone, seeking safety. Instead, they are met with racism, an anti-immigrant administration, and a complex legal system in which they do not have the right to a free attorney.
The Brave House seeks to bridge the gap in access to crucial services and create a space where these girls can heal from their past trauma, connect with other youth with similar experiences, and develop skills for long-term happiness and success.
To create a world where girls can thrive, lead, learn, and belong, regardless of their nationality or past trauma. By empowering and investing in immigrant girls, we can help disrupt cycles of intergenerational poverty and violence against women.
