I am excited to be running the 2018 New York City Marathon in support of the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation. This will be my first marathon and I am honored to join the GDMF team to tackle 26.2 miles, but more importantly fundraise in honor of Glen Doherty and the Special Operations community.
The GDMF was established to honor Glen Doherty, a Winchester, MA native, who was one of the four Americans killed in a terror attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 12, 2012. Glen was a Navy SEAL who became a private security contractor in the Middle East after retiring from the military. The Foundation’s mission is to ease the transition from military to civilian life by helping fund educational costs for Special Operations individuals and their children. Over 41 scholarships have been awarded in the past five years.
I am passionate about the opportunity to fundraise for the GDMF, as it provides an avenue to give back to Special Operations soldiers and their families, while preserving the memory of Glen Doherty and all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defending our nation in the Global War on Terror. Glen died serving with those he respected and protecting the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, while doing something he loved. He is an American Hero.
