On November 4, 2018, I will lace up my sneakers to run my fourth marathon - the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon as part of Team GDMF NYC!
I'm raising money for the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation which provides educational scholarships for service men and women and their families to help them transition from military to civilian life.
Glen Doherty, a Massachusetts native and former Navy SEAL, was one of four Americans killed in a terror attack in Bengazhi, Libya, in September 2012. The Foundation honors Glen's life, service and beliefs.
Its mission is very personal to me as I grew up in a military family. My dad, retired Col. Wheeler Summerhill, served in the United States Air Force for more than 30 years. My immense respect and gratitude for the men and women in all branches of the military who protect our country began with him.
I'm proud of my military upbringing and honored to be part of Team GDMF NYC. Through your generosity, I hope to give back to our nation's soldiers by providing funds to support their new careers and new family life.
It's been two years and some nagging injuries since I ran my last Boston Marathon. Training for 26.2 miles is a bit more daunting these days, and I'm more grateful than ever for your support!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and the soles of my running shoes,
