Child sexual abuse is one of the most common and most serious health risks for children. While statistics vary from 1 in 4 to 1 in 10, the reality is that we all know multiple people who were sexuall abused as children and sadly, some that are right now.
Awareness and education are essential to reducing risk and empowering children. Parents don't know where to start or what to say, schools and youth organizations are not often required to establish protocol to make safety a priority, and children don't know who to tell or if they'll be believed.
The Mama Bear Effect was created with the goal of making prevention education comprehensive, widely available, and down-to-earth.
Our organization is dedicated to producing educational materials, like our Rock the Talk™ parent packs and free videos as well as awareness campaigns: Tie One to End Abuse in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the #ITHappened project, for survivors to share their stories of survival and healing.
The word-of-mouth response for our materials and resources (including many requests for translations into other languages) far outweighs our ability to keep up with the demand.
We are destroying the taboo that has allowed child sexual abuse to continue for so long and helping others find the strength (that inner 'mama bear') to speak out for the safety and well being of the children in their communities.
With your help we can donate more of our educational materials helping other nonprofits and community advocates. We can continue filming our Rock the Talk™ videos which we offer for free on our website and social media, we can continue to amplify the voices of survivors, offering hope and comfort for those who have not yet found the courage to break the silence of their past.
There is much to do and we need your help.
