I was a foster child from the age of 5 to 18, and I was separated from my brother when I was 15. So when I saw that the Lenny Zakim Fund supports Sibling Connections, I was thrilled to dedicate each run to them. Sibling Connections is a local grassroots non-profit organization based in the Boston area that provides programming for Massachusetts children who have been separated from their siblings by the foster care system. Through day outings, weekend retreats, and summer camp programs, Sibling Connections provides opportunities for separated siblings to maintain and strengthen their sibling relationship that hopefully will last them their whole lives, and which might be the only reliable relationship they have.
I know firsthand that the work Sibling Connections does will have huge impact on tender hearts. I'm grateful I was able to stay connected to my brother through our separation. I want that for every child, especially the ones hurting because they already are separated from their parents. I'm sure you feel the same way.
Let's make it rain for LZF and Sibling Connections!
Thank you from my heart to yours,
