We need to make connecting to mental health resources easy. The process of seeking help is broken. The stats tell a shocking story that we can't afford to ignore.
- In America the suicide rate has outpaced death from war and natural disasters combined.
- 60% of people who need help for a mental health problem, don’t seek it.
- When people first realize they have a mental health problem it takes an average of 7-10 years before they receive help.
There was no comprehensive directory that brings all mental health resources together in one place. So, we made one. Surprisingly, it's the only one that includes psychologists, therapists, counselors, clinics, hospitals, treatment centers, crisis lines, and advocacy/support organizations- all in one place. We have over 22,000 verified resources and the directory is growing daily. We even gathered a team of volunteer developers who are donating code to improve it. Now we need help with our next step to improve the process of seeking help.
We're building a private online community for licensed mental health professionals. It will increase efficiency and improve collaboration between providers. Right now even mental health professionals struggle to connect people to the right help.
When we make life easy for providers everybody wins. For example, providers in our community can build a private list of their favorite resources. This will let anyone who uses our mental health resource directory order search results by what providers like most.
That's only one of the many innovative things you can do when you have a comprehensive directory that's integrated with a strong community of mental health professionals. We have some big plans on other ways to improve the experience of seeking help. Together, we can make a real difference in the mental health field and get people the help they need!
