So what is this dream? Well for you to really be able to understand it fully, you'd have to be in my head, since they have yet to invent such a device, I will do my best and try to explain it. Now keep in a mind that this isn't a finalized project, this is the very beginning of my journey and the hatching stage of all my ideas.
I have always wanted to go on a mission trip, ever since I can remember it was always on my bucket lists and i’ve been scouring the Internet to find something I thought would be a good fit for years now. A few days ago doing my usual searches, I stumbled on a website called workaway.info now this website is a bit different from what i’m use to seeing. It’s a website that essentially connects individual all over the world that want to travel and volunteer, to host that are willing to provide accommodation and food in exchange for a few hours of work a day. This concept is nothing new, it has been around for much longer then me, hostels have been using this for years, people seeking foreign nannies, seasonal fruit pickers. What was really heartbreaking to me was seeing the amount of very small non profits in developing countries that are struggling everyday to provide services for different groups of individuals, things that we take for granted every single day. Access to education, access to water, latrines, orphanage for the millions of children with no families, or families that can't afford to care for their children’s.
The thing is, we all know about this. I am not teaching you something new here, This isn't the first time you’ve heard that people in developing countries die of starvation, dehydration, and preventable diseases every second of every day. I am not surprising anyone here, but I also know exactly what is going to happen once you finish reading this. You are going to feel a little pinch in your heart, maybe spend a minute or 2 appreciating the life you have, you might even go as far as pray for those people, but then, you are going to close this page, go on about your life and forget all about this until the next instance you are reminded that you have it good.
Why do I know this? Because I do this. Because it’s human nature to think “someone else will deal with it, there's only one of me I can't change the world, a 5$ donation won't make a difference, others will share this I don't have to” But guess what? Almost all of us think that way, and guess what? Nothing ends up getting done. The other excuse? I don't have the money to do anything about it. I want you to take a hard look on your life and the way you are living. You have a house or somewhere warm with a bed, walls, roof, clean bathroom, kitchen, you have a car or the means to take public transit or uber, you have food in your fridge or money to go out and eat, if you want a burger you stop at McDonald’s on your way home from work and spend 2$,7$,12$ on a meal. But you're telling me that you’re poor and you don't have money, cut the crap. I’m not saying everyone has thousands of dollars sitting in their bank accounts, but you can skip your Starbucks coffee tomorrow morning and have an extra 6$ in your account! That 6$ is more than what a lot of people make in a week…
The biggest tool we have is the power of number. What I mean by this is that you are right. One person donating 1$ to a cause won’t make a difference, but if the 37 million Canadian gave 1$ each, that would make a whooping 37 million dollars, and it would make absolutely no difference whatsoever in your life because for us, a dollar is loose change at the bottom of our purse or pockets. You're right, not everyone will donate, out of those 37 million people not everyone is able to donate for various reasons, but if you have a Facebook, i’ll make the bold statement that the chances you are able to spare loose change is pretty darn high and you most definitely can spend 2 seconds sharing this and spreading the world, I promise, it won't hurt you.
I will be spending the year of 2019 raising money every way I can and choosing one or more (depending on funds) small non profit organization in the world and directly helping them out. I will be flying there, spending time volunteering and bringing with me funds and material to help in their project. To be able to make a difference that last, I need you. I need the power of numbers. I need every single person reading this to share, because you have friends all over the world that will also share, and I hope this travels as far as possible to get as many people involved! Now you could just ignore this, tell me you’ve already donated, that this isn't going to work, but I want you to trust me, to take even a few dollars and make a donation and follow this page! I will be updating my blog missiontrip.travel.blog regularly to keep everyone in the loop so you know exactly what is going on! But for now, what is really important is to get this out there, to spread the word and make a difference, so please don’t ignore this, help me help others.
