Help Transform Individuals With Substance Abuse Disorder Into Healthy, Happy, and Productive Members of Society
One in three opioid prescriptions is currently being abused in America today. It gets worse in some areas. For example, in the town of Wilmington, NC, over half of opioid prescriptions are used for non-prescribed purposes. Substance abuse destroys the individual, splits families apart, and damages the community. The costs associated with substance abuse are staggering: $400 billion is spent related to crime, lost work, and health care incurred by substance abuse. Even more sobering is the cost to human life: more human lives were lost in 2016 to drug overdose than the number of military members who died in the Vietnam War. Substance abuse is a heinous and complex problem that's ripping our country apart.
Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers (TROSA) is an innovative multi-year residential treatment program that eliminates significant barriers to receiving help. The program accepts everyone, costs nothing, and is 100 percent voluntary for participants. They spend two years at TROSA and build the skills they need to live a stable, sober life. TROSA has four social enterprises: Moving & Storage, Lawn Care, Thrift Store, and Tree Lots. As a licensed treatment facility, TROSA has figured out how to tailor a successful path of recovery towards success for substance abusers coming from any type of background.
Amazingly, nine out of ten of TROSA's program graduates remain sober one year after completing treatment and 90 percent are in stable housing and employed. TROSA provided over 170,000 days of service to residents in 2017. That's a lot of days of service packed into one year!
