Breast Cancer Survivor, Lisa Lutz, husband Tom, daughter Athena, and son, Vince had joined our team for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Race for the Cure on Mother’s Day in 2010, and again in 2011. At that time, Lisa was a 1 “plus” year survivor. I had met Lisa through Sven, my Firefighter Race partner (whose idea started us doing the Race in Full gear seven years ago). Lisa was a very gifted artist, and a warm people person, 18 years with the Wayzata Muni. In October 2011, Lisa, & Tom held a Charity Art Fair at their home benefitting The Jane Brattain Cancer Center. A gathering with several of her family, friends, & artist friends displaying, and enjoying friendships, works of art, live music, and Master Chef Lisa’s wonderful food. That day, Lisa gave me an “Angel” that she had made from clay along with a card calling me her angel. Last summer, on July 31, 2012, she lost that battle. We will be honoring Lisa this Mother’s Day.
In March of 2013, my Cousin, Wendy Hustad died, not directly of breast cancer. She too, was a survivor - 5 years. Makes you wonder how it all relates. Cousin Wendy, For Good - You’ll be with me, like a handprint on my heart. Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better? Because I knew you, I do believe I have been changed for the better. And because I knew you,,, I have been Changed for Good. Wendy Hustad 1954 - 2013
