"Waterproof" is a weekend of opportunities to recognize the resiliency of the Filipino people and the "kapitbahay" spirit (Tagalog- similar to "neighbor") of the country, especially during this time of tragedy. The term "waterproof" has gained recognition with the relief effort through a Filipino social media effort to spread the phrase and the idea of "The Filipino Spirit is Waterproof".
In keeping with this kapitbahay effort, each day starting Thursday, November 14th, a different venue in Worcester, will be hosting Waterproof's collection jars in hopes of raising as many funds as possible for the relief efforts of UNICEF (UN Children's Fund) in working with the victims of the Philippines' Typhoon Yolanda. Through this website however, funds do not have to only be raised in Worcester but can also be donated via this website. Fundraising will end Sunday at 10pm when funds will be submitted to UNICEF.
UNICEF fights for the survival and development of all children, in all situations, all of the time. This relentless conviction has propelled UNICEF to help save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization. We believe in a world where there are ZERO starving children; ZERO exploited children; ZERO children denied an education, and ZERO children deprived of clean water. By joining Team UNICEF, you will help us get closer to a day when every child has a safe and healthy childhood.
