Veterans in Media and Entertainment (VME) and formerly known as VFT - Veterans in Film and Television, is a 501(c)3 with a mission to empower, educate, and promote military veterans in media and entertainment careers and serves as a primary resource for the film and television industry to find, connect with, and hire veterans.Three veterans founded VME in 2012 with the goal of bringing like-minded service members and veterans who have an interest in creative careers together. It began as a grassroots movement and now has over 2850 members who work in (or aspire to work in) media and entertainment. VME services veterans in creative positions, corporate affairs, as well as the production trades and artisans. With over 2800 members and student members across the nation, our footprint is currently concentrated in film, television, music, digital and gaming. Our members work in or aspire to work in, every industry career field from creative to corporate leadership, production trades to programming, marketing to public relations and legal to business affairs. VME headquarters are in Los Angeles with growing chapters in NYC, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C.
VME's current website is outdated and the organization has vastly outgrown its ability to be used by industry hiring managers to find and connect with qualified veterans. This holiday season, VME is pushing to raise $25,000 by the end of the year to raise the funds required to create a new online portal for its membership and industry partners. $15,000 is required to finish building and lauch the website right away and the last $10,000 provides an entire year of support and upgrades. Newman's Own Foundation is running a Holiday Fundraising drive which VME is a part of. Every week there are Bonus Challenges - chances to get money donated from Newman's Own depending on how much we raise. Your donation could make the difference!
VME's new website will be instrumental in executing VME’s latest initiative - a job and internship program made possible by a $90k grant from Got Your Six and created hand in hand with hiring and key partnerships with the top-tier studios, networks, agencies, and production companies. To date, 19 companies have agreed to allocate a spot in their already established internship programs to qualified VME members. These companies include: United Talent Agency, Sony Pictures, Paramount, CBS, Viacom, LiveNation, Ticketmaster, RocNation, House of Blues, Insomniac, NBCUniversal, Lionsgate, HBO, 21st Century Fox, 44 Bluc, and Vahalla Entertainment, The Ebersol Lanigan Company, Dreamworks Animation, and Endemol Shine North America. Since launching the Since launching the Veteran Fellowship on November 6, 2017, 56 veterans have applied and VME has successfully placed 12 members in paid, top tier internships.
The new VME Vine-Up website is paramount to VME's new Veteran Fellowship Program success because it will host a job board, streamlining and simplifying the applicant screening process. Instead of wasting man-hours to create individual newsletter blasts for each internship opportunity, every one of which has differing timelines and requirements, hiring managers will be able to post directly to VME’s online job board and members will see the opportunity immediately after publishing. VME staff will be able to create online cohort groups where information can pass seamlessly between staff and members, allowing our internship alumni community to build and share successes. The increased search capability will also be a game changer, allowing hiring managers and VME staff to dial into specific qualifications, locations, and years of experience in an applicant.
