After taking care of her son’s classmate who was at risk of becoming homeless, Vicki Sokolik’s eyes were opened to the plight of unaccompanied youth. These are the 1.3 million homeless teenagers who have left the custody of their parent or guardian and are not eligible for foster care. Since 2008, Vicki’s organization, Starting Right, Now has helped more than 200 unaccompanied youth by giving them a loving home, helping them overcome their traumas, graduate high school, and pursue higher education and careers.
