Our Animal Care Supervisor, Kate, has raised her Franklin County Animal Shelter alum, Viggo, by hand since he arrived at our shelter when he was just 9 days old. For these last 10 months, he's been happy, healthy, and very, very active. Suddenly yesterday afternoon, he fell over just walking through our lobby, and inexplicably, his health rapidly declined. Kate rushed him to emergency care last night, where they tested him for everything from poison (negative) to Lyme (positive). His fever was 104 degrees and his blood count was 14, prompting them to order a blood transfusion. He's currently fighting for his life at Annabessacook Veterinary and awaiting another transfusion. They suspect he's having a sudden and severe reaction to Lyme disease, an extremely rare occurrence in dogs. Whatever the outcome, the costs of fighting to save his life will not be small. Please consider helping Kate and her husband, Josiah, to offset the costs of their fight for young Viggo's life. He is an amazing dog, and in his 10 months of life has proven to be extraordinarily smart, intuitive, and loving.
