“A Friend’s House” is a social day program of Visiting HomeCare Service of Ocean County for those with memory and cognitive impairments due to Alzheimer’s disease, mini strokes, vascular problems or Parkinson’s disease with symptoms of dementia. All attendees have some level of confusion or forgetfulness. All benefit greatly from socializing with peers and reminiscing. The program also provides physical activities in the form of a “Sit and be Fit” exercise program. All activities are designed to stimulate their memories and give them a sense of accomplishment.
The concrete handicap ramps and nearby walkways to our Toms River adult social day program facility are in need of replacement. At this time we have outdoor carpets placed over the most vulnerable areas as a temporary safety measure. However, for the long term safety of our patients, caregivers, and staff a more permanent solution is necessary. For this reason we have received an estimate of $6,725 from a local mason to completely replace the affected areas. We are therefore seeking the $6,725 from donations through the Ocean First Charity Challenge.
