In celebration of Giving Tuesday, help us raise $10,000, and Optima Bank & Trust will make a $5,000 donation to help support healthy futures for our youngest patients.
Your donation today can help to provide medically safe camp experiences for kids living with diabetes. These camps teach leadership skills and healthy lifestyle habits to campers each summer and create a sense of connection and belonging for children living with life-long illnesses.
Camp Lance-a- Lot Weekends provide a space for families and teens living with diabetes to bond with others who share similar challenges. The camaraderie and sense of belonging truly help families find their village. At the close of this year’s Camp Lance-a- Lot Family weekend, one mother shared that the camp was the first time since her son was diagnosed with diabetes that she had not cried each day. She felt that there was hope for their future. The camps also draw rave reviews from the younger participants: “This camp has taught me and my sister so much about life and the earth. Thank you!”
Camp Hot Shot allows younger kids living with diabetes the chance to enjoy the camp experience too - participating in sports, crafts and community activities. One mom observed that Camp hot Shot bolstered her daughter’s ability and interest in taking responsibility for managing her illness: “She has been more proactive about testing her blood sugar. She hasn’t argued or refused to test all week.”
Encouraging healthy lifestyles is the goal of our Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies summer camp. Last summer, nearly 400 campers found their voices through leadership training on a ropes course. Those same campers also were challenged to track their fitness using personal activity trackers, set fitness goals, and get competitive. And they learned to grow their own healthy foods, cook and enjoy them.
Your donation today toward our Giving Tuesday Challenge will make a difference for these young patients. Help them grow and achieve bright and healthy futures! Thank you for your generosity!
