For the past 42 years, Women & Children First has worked tirelessly to empower women and their children to live independently and free from domestic violence by providing crisis intervention, safe shelter, social/legal advocacy and support services.
Women & Children First: The Center Against Family Violence (WCF) was founded in 1976 as Advocates for Battered Women by a group of citizens concerned about the effects of domestic violence on the Little Rock community. In July 1999, the name was changed to Women & Children First: The Center Against Family Violence to better reflect the scope of services provided for victims. The mission of Women and Children First: The Center Against Family Violence is "Safety, Strength, and Hope to all victims of family violence."
WCF continues to serve our community in a large capacity. Recognizing that domestic violence not only affects women and children but many others, we accommodate men, teenage boys and those who are victims of human trafficking and sexual assault.
Today, Women & Children First continues to serve those who have been victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. During 2017, Women & Children First provided these core services:
Emergency Shelter: We are a 54 bed shelter that provided to more than 550 adult victims and their children (436) representing more than 13,000 shelter days.
Advocacy Program: More than 900 victims attended life skills, counseling, parenting and support groups.
State Wide 24-Hour Domestic Violence Hotline: answered more than 6300 crisis calls.
Court Advocacy Program: assisted 842 victims with obtaining Orders of Protection.
Transitional Housing: Provided assistance and support services to more than 25 families seeking permanent housing free of violence after leaving the shelter.
Children’s Program: served over 400 children in the shelter, in addition to educational and group support activities.
It is estimated that 1 in 3 women will suffer abuse regardless of age, race or income. To anyone being abused, you are not alone. Women & Children First is here to help.
While assisting victims is a major focus of our mission, we also know that by raising awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault we can help end it. Help up end domestic violence in Central Arkansas.
