For many youth in Pasadena and Altadena, life is not as rosy as the area’s public image makes it seem. The poverty rate here is higher than the national average, with more than 60% of high school juniors receiving free or reduced lunch. Youth from low-income families lack the resources they need to succeed in and outside the classroom. Our community’s most vulnerable young people need a safe space where they thrive academically and personally.
That’s where Flintridge Center’s Youth of Promise program comes in. Youth of Promise empowers and uplifts local youth who greatly impacted by poverty, incarceration, and community violence. We call them Youth of Promise because while they face many challenges, when we believe and invest in them they are full of promise. Throughout the year, youth participate in mentoring, tutoring, life skills, and field trips that are both fun and educational. These experiences help youth learn about the world, and blossom into their full potential.
Every year, we provide as many enriching experiences for our youth as possible, free of charge to their families - but we need your help to do it. Help us send all 30 youth in our program on all 15 field trips this summer and school year. In the next year, the fun outings we have planned are: college tours, bowling nights, a trip to Pacific Park in Santa Monica, go-kart racing at Speed Zone, museum visits, an Escape Room challenge, monthly community service, enrollment of 10 youth in the Girls On The Run program, and more.
Donate now to make these experiences happen. You can brighten a child’s day, week, month, or year. Any amount helps.
