The YWCA Wheeling helps close to 1,500 women, children and men each year with domestic violence services. The most volatile time for a victim is when they leave and they don't all survive.
I have met women who have taught their children to escape from the trunk of a car, men who have died trying to assist a friend leaving her husband, and women who have returned home and not survived all in the Ohio Valley. There are women who have been locked in a room for months or years, women afraid to leave their home because camera's tell the story to their captor and a woman who was being mutilated by her "loving" husband because he had paid for her plastic surgery. This must end.
The YWCA Wheeling is working to break the cycle with teen dating violence awareness, coaching boys to men, and back to basics programming none of which are funded by state or federal grants. Help make a difference for our children it is our responsibility.
