My name is Samuel. Since 5th grade, I have been quite interested by the refugee crisis. To me, it is one of the most important issues of our time, not only in terms of how long it’s been going on and how serious it is, but also how it is literally one of the largest issues of our time, spanning three continents. The refugee crisis is constantly evolving. Conflict, travel bans, and border brutality make a horrible situation worse. What pushes the crisis to the top of my concerns is that there is no foreseeable end. The conflicts that have displaced millions of people around the globe have been going on for many years, and may go on for many more. The war in Syria that is displacing thousands and thousands of refugees is a proxy war. Heinous war crimes are committed by terrorists in the middle of the mess that make the situation extremely hard to improve. We need to unite as a country, and try to sway other countries into doing the right thing: helping refugees and eventually ending conflict. The longer the war rages on, the more people will be displaced. We not only need to prevent people from being left without homes and jobs, but when necessary we need to fit those displaced into our society as well. If you look at countries in Europe as well as our own country, you find that very few displaced and homeless people fleeing from war, terror, and oppression are taken in. There is fear that the homeless are terrorists--but these people are just like you and me. They want to live; they want to see their children live; they want to grow up in a safe place with a happy family. To ensure that they have a brighter future, please join me in raising money so that we can help those in need.
