For 15 consecutive years, students from Saginaw Valley State University and Grand Valley State University have seized the interest in the schools’ football rivalry and competed in a charitable fundraising competition known as “Battle of the Valleys." Together the two schools have raised over half a million dollars for Michigan charities, with SVSU raising slightly over $350,000 in total. The Cardinals have claimed the Victoria trophy the past nine Battles, and have outraised GVSU in 11 of the 14 total competitions. The Mustard Seed will be SVSU's charitable benefactor partner for the 15th annual “Battle of the Valleys” fundraising competition. The Mustard Seed shelter is located on Saginaw’s east side; it provides the basics such as shelter, food and a caring home environment as it helps homeless women with children move from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
