Please help us create an urban farm - supported work program for “aspiring farmers” who are challenged by developmental and emotional disabilities!
The League Education and Treatment Center (LETC), has been improving the lives of children and adults with emotional and developmental disabilities for over 60 years. Our pre-vocational program teaches adults with behavioral and learning disabilities practical jobs skills for real world employment. Employment (even part time employment), gives an enormous boost to our clients’ sense of pride and personal growth.
Smile Farms, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create a national movement focused on providing adults with developmental disabilities meaningful work opportunities in agricultural settings; in the communities where they live.
This year Smile Farms, Inc. has pledged to cover 50 % of the cost of building an “urban farm” at the League’s Kingston Avenue site in Brooklyn…. The balance of the costs has to be covered through fundraising by LETC.
In addition to our adult clients with developmental disabilities, many of the teen-age students with emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges who are enrolled in our League School will also benefit from this “urban farming” educational and vocational opportunity.... by interning with the "Smile Farms at LETC" urban farm project.
Please donate and help us install a hoop house, raised beds, an irrigation system and other components of a “Smile Farm at LETC” …… donate now so that the people in our care will be able to plant Fall crops and the healing and transformative power of working the soil will begin for them…
