I am going to run 13.1 miles. A Half-Marathon. This is a BIG DEAL. Let me tell you why I am doing this. Every year I choose a new challenge to learn/hurdle. Last year I started going back to church after a 20 year hiatus. I met the RidgeRunners-a group of dedicated, go-into-battle with you group, and I challenged myself to run for the first time. I chose the 5K, and I conquered it last October clocking in at 29:06. The next day I had the honor of cheering on every single Detroit Marathon runner, and it was one of the most powerful moments of my life. I was called to be there that day. But this year I want to be a part of it. I want to run across the Ambassador Bridge and back through the tunnel. I want to cross the finish line having proved to myself that I can accomplish what I set out to do.
I am also going to try to fundraise $1440. This is an even BIGGER DEAL. I have a hard time asking people for money. But there is a cause that I am passionate about, and that is the real reason I am running this marathon. There are 1440 minutes in a day. I am free to do whatever I want to with these minutes. But a victim of human trafficking is enslaved for those same 1440 minutes, and may be undergoing unspeakable horrors. I am joining Love Runs in the fight against human trafficking in the Metro Detroit area. The money we raise in our efforts will assist local partners who are in the trenches fighting human trafficking on a daily basis.
I am not just running and fundraising to stop human trafficking. I participated in an outreach effort to help educate hotel staff about human trafficking, and am opening others eyes to this hidden epidemic. If you have read through all of this, I thank you. And I want to ask you to please help donate to help me reach my goal of raising $1440 up to the time of the Marathon in October. Just think about your freedom today, and how much you value it. With your help, we can bring victims of human trafficking to freedom.
