My mom has cancer. I run, fundraise, and live my life to make sure others don't.
In 2018, I hope to raise at least $10,000 for Bright Pink by running the Cleveland Marathon and the Chicago Marathon. Why am I crazy enough to run 26.2 miles twice in one year and pour my heart and soul into asking people for money? Because, for the last 13 years (over half of my life), I've watched my mom live with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. And I am determined to teach all women, especially those my own age, what they can do to help prevent breast (and ovarian) cancer.
It is my goal to raise $30,000 for various cancer organizations by the time I'm 30. I've already raised about $7,000 but I only have 4 more years to come up with the other $23,000. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time. Some, like my mom, will be diagnosed when it is too late and they will live with cancer for the rest of their lives. But with the tools that Bright Pink offers all women, tools that you will help to fund if you donate to my 2018 fundraiser, we can become educated in prevention and early detection, which will save our lives.
