Ocean Awareness Week
Organized by: Megan Pringle
Ocean Awareness Week (OAW) is an annual event held at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Our mission is to spread awareness on campus and in South Florida about pressing ocean conservation issues. 2016's Ocean Awareness Week will be held November 7th - 13th and will be focused on highlighting the environmental problems surrounding the South Florida community. We will be donating all profits from the week to Debris Free Oceans, a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded by UM alumna Caiti Pomerance, Sairi Fida, and Amanda Broadwell. Debris Free Oceans uses their platform to inspire communities to work to eliminate plastic waste on beaches and in the oceans by reducing reliance on single-use plastic, reusing old plastics, recycling those plastics which cannot be reused, recovering plastic and other marine debris that enters the oceans, and redesigning the marine debris.
