Music Together® is an internationally recognized early childhood music program for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the adults who love them. First offered to the public in 1987, it pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement. Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical.
We discovered Old Colony Music Together when my daughter was an infant. I took her to a free demo class at the local library, and immediately fell in love with it! For the next five years, we attended every 10-week, summer, and holiday session that was offered. I really loved how the whole family was involved, unlike other activities where the focus was solely on the child and the parents observed from the sidelines. Last winter, I decided that I wanted to share that wonderful experience with other families! So I became an intern and completed the Teacher Training; I had just started to co-teach the Spring session when I ran the Boston Marathon.
In the weeks and months that followed, I experienced many different emotions: overwhelming sadness, anger, relief, and physical and mental fatigue. Music calmed my mind and helped me to focus. I will be forever grateful to my fellow Music Together® teacher, who gave me space to heal and gently coaxed me back to participating in her class. With her guidance, I was able to “fly solo” just a few months later, and embrace the joy and fun of sharing music with other families.
Your generous support makes it possible for Old Colony Music Together to provide this amazing experience in 10 different communities. Fifty classes are offered to 350 families (441 children total). Approximately 10 families receive tuition assistance from the scholarship fund; many more receive assistance in the form of program discounts. Here’s what your donation can do:
- $200 allows a child to attend a full 10-week session in Milton, Quincy, Easton, and Canton
- $175 allows a child to attend a full 10-week session in Attleboro, Norton, Rehoboth, and West Bridgewater
- $140 allows a younger sibling to attend the same session in Canton
- $100 allows a younger sibling to attend the same session in all other locations
