Amazon CARES recruits veterinary volunteers from all over the world to perform free spay and neuter clinics for street animals in Peru's Amazon region. These animals are sick and helpless. Spaying / neutering them improves their overall health. Additionally we provide all vaccinations and treatment for internal/external parasites. We improve the health of the animal population, and reduce the issue of over population.
Due to the expense and time involved in traveling to Iquitos, Peru, the world's most remote city, it is hard to attract qualified Veterinary professionals.
These volunteers not only leave their work for two weeks, but they must pay up to $1800 just to get to the volunteer location! Amazon CARES has lowered our costs so that volunteers only pay $600 for their two weeks with us. That includes all meals and lodging and local transport.
We also must purchase medical supplies associated with the numerous spay / neuter mobile clinics we perform during these volunteer campaigns.
