Dear Friends & Family:
As many of you know (as this is the 3rd year I have graciously asked you for a donation), I volunteer for an amazing organization called iMentor. iMentor connects New York City professionals with high school students from low-income communities, creating the foundation and support for high-impact mentoring relationships.
I'm currently in my third year with the program and have been working with a new mentee, Jazmin. She's a sweet, charismatic, sophomore who loves to sing, dance and act. Over the next few years Jazmin and I will work on her goal of getting into college and I'm looking forward to opportunity to guide her through the process. I take pride in this opportunity and I continue to look for other ways to assist in the continued success of the program
The success of iMentor is demonstrated by the fact that 92% of eligible mentees graduated from high school after the 2010 program year (compared to New York City’s average graduation rate of 60.7%), and 82% enrolled in college. This year alone, iMentor will match 1,800 young people with 1,800 mentors in New York City – connecting professionals seeking a meaningful volunteer commitment with the young people who benefit so significantly from mentoring relationships. In order to do this we need your help. I know that times are tough for everyone but if you are looking to donate to a worthy cause, here it is. Every dollar makes a difference. A donation as small as $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events. $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events. $500 sponsors a mentee’s participation for an entire year.
Please consider making a donation to help me reach my goal.
iMentor is the premiere mentoring program in NYC. This year alone, iMentor will match 1,800 professionals in one-on-one relationships with students from low income neighborhoods in NYC. In addition, iMentor will bring our innovative model to thousands of students nationwide through our national program, iMentor Interactive. Mentoring relationships are changing the trajectory of mentees’ lives by helping them graduate high school and enroll in college.
iMentor’s impact is best explained by the students we serve. Kandace, a mentee from the Bronx, says; “My mentor gives me support in school and lets me know I can succeed. With her support, nothing can get me down. She lifts me up when I’m down and keeps me motivated.”
