Hi Family and Friends!
Thank you so much for visiting my page!
As many of you know, I have volunteered as a mentor for many years - beginning with Epiphany Mentoring in the Bronx - and now I'm a proud member of iMenor's awesome volunteers! I've always enjoyed my experience working with youth; helping them reach their full potential and grow into the person they're meant to be is a very exciting and inspiring process to be apart of. Mentoring isn't just about helping my mentee, Crystal, reach her full potential, it's also a constant reminder and opportunity for me to reach my full potential, as well.
I don't have a picture with Crystal yet because we've only met twice, but I can assure you she's an amazing young lady with lots of dreams and goals and we are working on figuring it all out together. iMentor has a really unique and effective approach to mentoring which is why I was drawn to be a volunteer. Mentor and Mentee pairs interact via weekly e-mails and monthly in-person events. The e-mails have a prompt and help to guide the pairs on topics that are essential for relationship building and for goal setting and planning. The in-person meetings use the e-mail communications to create a more in-depth conversation and give the pairs an opportunity to get to know each other better.
My e-mails and in-person meetings with Crystal have been so great so far. She's a junior in high school and we're working on everything for the college search and application process. With only two meetings so far, she's moved from a 'I don't think college is for me' thought process to narrowing schools down by her own preferences. Maybe we'll have an application in before the meet-up in April! ;)
With your donation...of ANY amount...you can help this awesome organization reach more of NYC's youth and help them get to college, too. Every little bit helps...
Funds raised will help iMentor match 2,400 students with mentors this year. It costs $1,000 for iMentor to provide each mentor-mentee pair with access to quality programming and resources. Every donation —whether $10 or $1,000—will make you part of a team that is having a lasting impact on the life of a high school student.
