Friends and family,
As many of you know, I'm the Direcor of Volunteers at iMentor, a mentoring program that provides youth in underserved communities with college-educated mentors who help students develop the leadership, academic, and social skills needed to succeed in high school and college.
What you might not know is that in my non-working hours I also moonlight as a mentor myself, to a truly amazing young woman named Jenivah. Jenivah is a Senior at the Bronx Academy of Letters and we've been working together since the beginning of her Junior year.
Jenivah's dream is to become a child psychologist and over the past year and a half, we've worked together to build a plan that will help that dream become a reality. We've also shared laughs about teenage boys, worked through anxieties about being a first-generation college student, and explored NYC together. Along the way, I've had a blast and learned so much.
The 2012 Online Donor Drive is about Jenivah, and the thousands of students like her, who have the potential to do great things. It costs $1,000 a year to support a mentor/mentee pair. So whether you help with $10 or $1,000, your involvement makes you part of a network of individuals making a lasting investment in the life of a high school student.
But why is Online Donor Drive important?
Word of mouth is a powerful thing. The Online Donor Drive is made up of those who, week after week, dedicate their time, passion and support- mentors. The campaign’s “drive” comes from each mentor lending their voice in support of iMentor and the impact the program has. It costs $1,000 a year to support a pair and ensure they have access to quality programming and resources.
So spread the word and get everyone in your network involved in this year’s ODD. It’s not every day that you can say you helped change a life, but today can be that day.
