Thanks for stopping by my Online Donor Drive page!
The Online Donor Drive is a "friendraising" campaign aimed at raising funds to support iMentor's vital work. I am just one of hundreds of mentors who have made pages that showcase our passion for mentoring. Please take this moment to donate $1, $25, $100, or whatever your budget will allow. I will match each donation until I reach my goal!
As some of you know, I volunteer with iMentor, a nonprofit that connects NYC professionals (like myself) in one-on-one mentoring relationships with high school students from low-income communities all around New York.
This is my third year as a mentor and my second year on the Young Executive Board.
I’ve had the great opportunity to be matched with my mentee Jennifer Ortiz and would like to share my story. Jennifer is in her senior year at International High School @ Prospect Heights, a school predominantly attended by children of recent immigrants.
Jennifer and her family immigrated to New York from the Dominican Republic a short few years back, at an age where it’s hard enough as it is to adjust, fit in, connect with other students, plan for college, take the SATs, study for the NYC Regents exams and so on …all while learning a new language and assimilating into a new lifestyle in a new country.
During our meetings, Jennifer is always eager to practice her English and share her goals, difficult moments, hopes and dreams with me. Spending time learning about her and guiding her through her senior year has been immensely rewarding and fun. We have explored fossils at the Museum of Natural History, worked on her resume, practiced her interview skills over lunch, and viewed modern art at the MoMA. Jennifer has made great progress. She has excelled at math, passed all her Regents exams, and plans to attend college next year where she will major in accounting.
It’s has been amazing getting to know her and I am proud to have this opportunity to let you into my world as a mentor.
We have all had someone in our lives that we consider a role model or a mentor. Don’t you think today’s youth deserve the same opportunity? iMentor makes this possible.
Every dollar makes a difference. A donation as small as $25 allows a mentee to attend a year’s worth of iMentor events. $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events. $500 sponsors a mentee’s full participation for an entire year. My goal is $1000 and I am proud to have this opportunity to invite you all to help make it happen.

iMentor is the premiere mentoring program in NYC. This year alone, iMentor will match 1,800 professionals in one-on-one relationships with students from low income neighborhoods in NYC. In addition, iMentor will bring our innovative model to thousands of students nationwide through our national program, iMentor Interactive. Mentoring relationships are changing the trajectory of mentees’ lives by helping them graduate high school and enroll in college.
iMentor’s impact is best explained by the students we serve. Kandace, a mentee from the Bronx, says; “My mentor gives me support in school and lets me know I can succeed. With her support, nothing can get me down. She lifts me up when I’m down and keeps me motivated.”
