BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF THE SOUTH SHORE HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: FRIENDS OF THE SOUTH SHORE HOSPITAL
EVENT DATE: Sep 12, 2015
My daughter, Celine, was born at 35.5 weeks and spent 23 nights in the NICU. While we knew she would have no lasting problems from her prematurity, it was still a very difficult time for me. The nurses and volunteers in the NICU were so helpful in making me feel cared for and listened to. I told myself that as soon as I stopped feeling totally overwhelmed, I would do something to give back to them. Read below for information about the event, and if you'd like to make a donation, I'd appreciate it.

For parents of a child who needs NICU services, you know that every day is a blessing. For some families the journey from birth to NICU to home can be a short, easy-to-maneuver few days. For other families it can be a long, over whelming, adventurous, heart-breaking, scary, wonderful, rewarding, many months before your little one is able to finally make the trip home. As Dr. Seuss said “You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!” Come join the Friends of Growing Families at the stroll on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 10 am – 1 pm. This will be the 12th stroll to support the NICU and SCN at the hospital. The stroll began as a “walk around the block” at Fogg Road when a group of moms wanted to find a way to give back for the wonderful care they received while their newborns were here. Over the years it grew and moved, first, to the Hanover Mall then to South Shore YMCA. This year we are moving to DCR Wompatuck State Park in Hingham. The new location allows us the space we need to grow even more. For the stroll portion of the event there is a paved, tree lined 1.1 mile course, you can chose to follow the path as many times as you want that day. Fun for the whole family! There will be games, face painting, balloons, music, a photo booth and crafts. You can bring a picnic lunch, blanket or chairs and spend time visiting with staff, catching up with old friends or making new friends.
