Sometimes the animals we rescue are diagnosed with terminal maladies or illness, so they remain in sanctuary care because they are simply not considered adoptable. In sanctuary care, Panacea ensures the best quality of care is given for whatever time the pet has left in its life.
Olaf was pulled out to the shelter literally hours before he was to be euthanized. He could hardly walk and only hopped like a bunny. Over time, he was running on all fours like a puppy after receiving traditional eastern and western medicine (including Chinese herbs). As he aged, he eventually succumbed to doggie dementia and we had to say goodbye to him.
Olaf's Guardians would like to shine a spotlight on the fact that supporting sanctuary animals like Olaf is just as important as working with the animals that can be rehabbed and rehomed. Simply put, the greatest gift we can provide any sanctuary animal (like Olaf) is compassion to live out whatever time remains with love and dignity.
