BENEFITING: One Warm Coat
Some of you know I help collect coats for OneWarmCoat each fall. Every year I've been blessed to meet incredible people and to hear their amazing stories of strength and perseverance through hardship and struggle. When times get tough and I need a shot of perspective, I just think about them and remember that hardships and sorrow are a part of all our lives, and I am mostly very lucky. In this time of violence and hatred, separatism, cynicism and fear, can we all do something every day to change the way we think and act? President Obama said in Dallas Tuesday, we all must “pray for a new heart. Not a heart of stone, but a heart open to the fears and hopes and challenges of our fellow citizens…because with an open heart, we can learn to stand in each other’s shoes and look at the world through each other’s eyes.” Hope is found in lifting others up. Commit to practice random acts of love and kindness every day and help spread love in a desperate world. You can start right here, right now, by giving a few dollars to this OneWarmCoat virtual drive. Every dollar raised will warm two people in need, and coats will be provided before the first coat drives of the season get underway. “Olive’s Hope,” named in honor of my new granddaughter, is that in her lifetime this world may be transformed to one in which diversity is celebrated, equality is the reality, love overcomes hatred, and people everywhere live in peace embraced by unity, acceptance, and compassion. Thanks for helping out!
