During the summer of 2013 I spent 18 days in Udon Thani with Rustic Pathways, a program that sends kids all over the world to do community service. For these two weeks I lived on a base with other students and worked on community service projects everyday. These projects ranged from building houses to teaching kids how to swim, spending time with orphans, and many more. My time in Udon Thani was life changing. I experienced a culture completely different from my own and saw striking amounts of poverty. Through my service work I built strong connections with many Thai children and believe that I positively affected lives with my work.
I loved my time with Rustic Pathways so much that I am hoping to do it again! After looking into other programs by Rustic Pathways I can’t imagine spending my next summer doing anything else. There is a community service program located in Tanzania, on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, which focuses on environmental and community projects to improve the living conditions of the village. I would love to participate in this service work so I am reaching out to everyone to fundraise and fund my trip to Africa.
I believe that these traveling opportunities will shape me and affect my future. For this reason, I am asking for an investment in me, my future and the future of the Tanzanian village.
