It's not okay!
It's not okay that every 8 minutes a young adult is diagnosed with cancer and every hour a young adult loses the battle! Cancer is the number one disease killer among young adults!
As many know, shortly after my 30th birthday I began complaining of vague abdominal symptoms: nausea, vomiting and some pain. My doctor diagnosed me with a virus and told me to ride it out. Thankfully, I went to see another physician, a GI specialist, that discovered my worst nightmare: a tumor. I was diagnosed in August 2011 with stage IV cholangiocarcinoma that had metastasized to my liver, left adrenal gland, lungs and lymphnodes. Despite being married just about a year at the time and having many very loving people in my life, I have never felt more alone. I didn't think anyone could understand what it was like to go through this...
Until I discovered I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation, the largest support community of young adult survivors and caregivers. Found online at www.stupidcancer.com, they give people like me a voice and raise awareness of issues unique to my specific cancer population: those trapped in the middle.
The annual conference, the OMG Cancer Summit, brings together young adult cancer patients, survivors and caregivers so they can join together in the fight against cancer. No one should have to go through cancer alone and this orginization makes it possible.
Please help me reach my fundraising goals! Make sure that this event continues and that cancer patients and survivors can make their way to an event that can help change their lives. The money supports the organization and the annual summit.
