Hello! My name is Kimberly Fink. Welcome to my fundraising page.
I'm raising money for an awesome organization called "I'm Too Young For This!" Cancer Foundation. It's the nation's largest support community for young adults dealing with cancer. They have an online community to help young adults figure out how to deal with and navigate getting treatment and services for cancer. They do all kinds of cool things like host local chapters, educational workshops, conferences, boot camps, and even a radio show. They empower young adults by providing information about resources available to them, provide support so no one feels alone, and helps to provide a meaningful survivorship.
A year ago I never thought I would be apart of a community like this. When the doctor told me that I had cancer it was devastating. I wanted to seek comfort from other people who had been through the same experience. Being a young person I found it extremely difficult to connect with other young people going through the same thing, especially since the type of cancer I have is extremely rare in young people (with the average age being 70). Organizations like I'm Too Young For This are so important because they fill a gap that exists in the cancer community, helping young people who have different psychological needs than others. They are also more likely to feel stigmatized, since fewer of their peers have had experience with cancer. Learning that you have cancer changes your perspective on everything. Everyone knows that we are only temporary. It’s the most obvious truth of our lives, yet most people cannot understand what it means until you are faced with the uncertainty. I’m Too Young for This Cancer Foundation is important to me because I can meet other young people that have this life perspective and it provides me with comfort and hope for the future.
