It's NOT ok!
It's not ok that every 8 minutes, a young adult is diagnosed with cancer and every hour a young adult loses their battle to cancer. Cancer is now the #1 disease killer in young adults today.
While planning a class reunion, I was feeling more fatigued and stressed out than I normally do. I am a mother of 2 rambunctious children, so I thought it was "growing pains" for all of us. I started having some very strange symptoms. Pain in my pelvic area, and abnormal bleeding. I went to the doctor, suspecting it had something to do with my IUD, but was told I had a polyp. Cut to a month later, and I was diagnosed with Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Cervix, a very rare, aggressive type of cancer. Approximately 1% of all cervical cancers diagnosed are this type. I felt so alone, and helpless. While googling my cancer, I came across a beautiful, inspiring woman by the name of Colleen Marlett. Her article led me to a facebook page with 100+ women with the same thing I had! Through a hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and numerous losses, we have been there for each other. Through them, I found out about THIS group!
The I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation is the largest support community of young survivors and caregivers in the US. Online at https://StupidCancer.com, they give survivors like me a voice and raise awareness for the unique issues that I face as a young adult; issues like isolation, fertility, sexuality, dating, insurance, career building, and more.
Their annual conferencem The OMG! Cancer Summit for Young Adults is a pivotal event that brings together hundreds of young adult survivors and caregivers for a one-of-a-kind experience of healing, education, and community. No one should go through cancer alone. The OMG! Cancer Summit makes this possible.
Please support my efforts to ensure that I, and hundreds of other survivors like me, get the chance to attend this event, experience the support and community I need, and make a difference for thousands of young adults affected by cancer.
