After 6 years of schooling I finally graduate with my undergrad in May of 2013, but will technically be done with all of my schooling by the end of April. In the midst of that first year of college I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and was forced to disenroll in order to participate in some not-so-voluntary chemo and radiation therapy (that sounded depressing, it wasn't meant to be, it was meant to be a light hearted joke that I now see was just uncomfortable. Anyway. Moving on). I've now been a survivor for the past 5 years, and am just now getting comfortable with it. In the process of looking for ways to become even more comfortable I stumbled upon this year summit about 2 years ago, but just wasn't ready. So instead I promised myself 2 years ago that I would attend the OMG! Summit when I graduated.
This goal has helped keep me motivated through my senior year of boring lectures, sweaty presentations in front of my peers, and makes me get out of bed for the dreaded early morning.
My interaction with fellow cancer patients has been one that mostly involved those who are younger or much older than me, but I think it's finally time to jump into my age group. Graduate into my age group of cancer survivors, if you please... see what I did there?
It's pretty awesome that the summit is in Vegas this year, but those of you who know me are well aware that Vegas really has no allure in my mind. I would have gone where ever the summit was placed. But let's be honest, the fact that it's in Vegas is pretty great. Especially when compared to April in Montana.
The funds raised are given to "Stupid Cancer" to help pay for the summit and also the other helpful tools that they provide for young adult cancer survivors. The benefits and opportunities that the "I'm 2 Young For This" foundation gives to young adults are unparalleled. So I feel it is time to give back.
Another bonus of raising money for this is that if I reach certain goal amounts I could actually have the cost of attending the summit, offset, and reimbursed... as a broke college student this would be incredible. However that's not why I'm raising the money, I'm doing this because it feels right, and I know I won't regret it.
Thank You in advance to those who donate, or simply to those who managed to read through my story without falling asleep. You're a champion who has a much longer attention span than myself :)
