THE STORY:

Welcome to Steven Lee's Crowdrise for the OMG2014 Cancer Summit:

As many of you know I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia a month after I turned 18 and just a short time before my high school graduation in 2009. My journey all started with simple blood work due to some fatigue and minor bruising. That led to an immediate visit with my primary physician and a oncology team waiting for me in ER. After hearing the news my initial thoughts were this is something where I'll be given antibiotics and be released from the hospital. However that wasn't the case and this roller coaster of events began,  I was to be hospitalized for a great amount of the next 6 months and be put on various types of  chemotherapy drugs to get this leukemia under control. I had to grow up quite a bit, from realizing who my true/real friends were to signing my life away on my medical documents since I was now a legal adult.  I was told at the time that my only possible chance for survival was a bone marrow transplant which in my case being Hispanic and Chinese the chances of finding a match was 3% out of 10million people on this national registry. Throughout the process I learned to take things in stride, a day at a time, and more importantly stay strong while doing so.

I went through 4 rounds of treatment before I received my 1st bone marrow transplant in 2009 which happened to be a perfect 10/10 match. As my recovery began things seemed to be on the uprise and life was good again. I was able to be volunteer at a summer cancer camp for kids called Okizu and looked forward to getting back into the real world with work and school.
I relapsed in 2011 a few days after celebrating 2years cancer free. From that point forward I was to endured more chemotherapy, this time around radiation, and yet a 2nd bone marrow transplant. By this time I knew more or less what to expect but it was helpful to connect with other via social media to keep positive energy flowing.

It wasn't until almost a year after my first bone marrow transplant that I found out about Stupid Cancer. It has shown me that you aren't in this fight alone and there are people that have been through these tough times before. I was able to attend OMG 2013 in Las Vegas which was an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to meet and connect with some really great people who I consider life long friends. This past January I celebrated 2 years of new life yet again. As of February 4th of this year I completed EMT school in hopes of a carreer of helping others as many have helped me.

Although the battle isn't over I want to give a big thanks to all my supporters who have been there throughout my journey and continue to encourage me to achieve my goals. I can't even begin to imagine what my life would be like if I wouldn't have faced Leukemia not once but twice. I often wondered what my future held while going through treatment but with my health on the uprise and a career in the medical field insight, I can only Slow down just a little bit and enjoy the journey of right now! It's time to "Get Busy Living" OMG 2014 is 63 Days away and counting.

Please help me reach my goal as I take on Vegas this April. Any Donation are tax deductible and are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support,

Steven Lee
