Mahatma Ghandi said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” It is in this spirit that OmLuxe, a yoga and personal growth-based travel collective, and the Somaly Mam Foundation (SMF), a nonprofit organization committed to ending sex slavery and empowering survivors, have partnered to provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those who wish to help in Cambodia, while generating global consciousness and selflessness.
Pamela Jones, OmLuxe co-founder, award-winning international photographer and certified yoga instructor, will pack up her mat and travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia with 20 others for a journey of introspection, communal compassion, and spirited activism. Compassion in Cambodia, scheduled for November 9-15, 2013, was created with the goal of raising $40,000 for the Somaly Mam Foundation. Each retreat participant will call upon their family, friends and professional connections for donations until the goal is collectively reached.
ABOUT THE SOMALY MAM FOUNDATION
The Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to ending sex slavery and empowering survivors as part of the solution. SMF focuses its efforts in Southeast Asia, where the trafficking of women and children is widespread. Somaly Mam, having survived nearly a decade of sex slavery, committed her life to liberating women and children who faced a simliar fate. She is now a global leader in the anti-trafficking movement: since the founding of her own NGO 15 years ago, she and her team have aided tens of thousands of women and girls, and have brought the issue of human trafficking to the attention of millions all over the world. Somaly has been honored as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2009 and as a CNN Hero.
Guests will meet with Somaly Mam during a private lunch, and will also spend a day with survivors of sex trafficking with a yoga class and interactive panel with Voices for Change. Daily yoga and meditation, group acupuncture and astrology sessions, guided tours, and workshops in yoga, photography and cooking are other highlights of the retreat. Pamela Jones will be joined by special guest hosts: Lori Bell, Acupuncture Physician and Doctor of Oriental Medicine; Martina Rakus, anti-aging expert and yoga instructor; and HaChi Yu, certified yoga instructor and former Feld Ballet principal dancer.
