Omoruyi Austin Aigbe has eight years experience in the nonprofit sector management, particularly in Nigeria, with in-debt knowledge in conflict management, resolution and impact mitigation, strategic planning and reviews, gender mainstreaming, project planning, development and management, community mobilization and development through Participatory Rural Appraisal and Participatory Learning Approach (PRA/PLA).
Omoruyi’s interest is in the intercession of poverty, corruption, gender in development, injustice and hunger. The hope is a just society where local people have ownership of development projects, enhanced through local capacity and knowledge transfer, thereby building a core of development experts at the local level that can demand and protect their rights.
Omoruyi is a recent MPA graduate of New York University’s Robert F. Wagner, Graduate School of Public Service, (Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy -PNP), specializing in international development. At NYUWagner School, he was the President of Wagner Student Alliance for Africa (WSAFA), and a member of International Public Service Association (IPSA). He received a Bachelor of Public Administration degree from the Ambrose Alli University, Nigeria. After graduating in 2003, Omoruyi served in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Federal Training Center (The Presidency) in Kaduna State-Nigeria. As a Corps member, he represented the NYSC at the Kaduna State Action Committee on AIDS, leading to the mobilization of corps members in AIDS awareness and community mobilization. He was also the Corps Liaising Officer (CLO), coordinating corps members’ Community Development Service (CDS), passing out in 2004 with an award of excellence in grassroots leadership development.
He is a member of the following organizations: ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) General Assembly, Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CiSHAN), Zero Corruption Coalition (ZCC), Nigeria National Coalition on Affirmative Action (NCAA), Conference of Non-Governmental Organization (CONGOs), Edo State Committee of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), European Union (EU) CSOs Coalition (EU/INSIDE) and alum of Africa Leadership Forum (ALF) and Global Social Change Leadership Institute (GSCLI) of the Research Center for Leadership in Action (RCLA).
Omoruyi is a Fellow of the Ford Foundation International Fellowships program, the program that brings together exceptional individuals with demonstrated social commitment and academic achievement. His objective is to become a global leader in the public service, to make contribution to the leadership of domestic and international non-profit, social policy that has to do with human and sustainable development. His hobby is listening to social justice advocates, discussing issues of development and being around his target population.
