First off, thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I've decided to run the NYC 2017 Marathon in honor of my friend Lauren, who passed away from cancer earlier this year. Lauren was a daughter, sister, wife, mother to three young children, a friend to many, and teacher of countless children. Lauren and I first met during our year of service through Americorps. We worked in Brockton, teaching 2nd and 3rd graders involved in our Leaps In Literacy program. We became fast friends and Lauren was the first person to get me running. We would spend our after-work hours running around the track at the Brockton YMCA, chatting about life and our "kids". Those workouts justified our Friday pizza & salad lunches at the famous Christos. So many special memories... Since Lauren's passing, I have been searching for a way to try to adequately honor her life. Raising money for an organization that supports the families of pediatric cancer patients seems like a good place to start.
I first learned about ONE MISSION when running the Boston marathon in 2015. Since that time, a college classmate lost her son to cancer and several families in my local area have been impacted by this awful disease. As a mother, there is nothing scarier to me than one of my children being sick. I'm so grateful to have two healthy children, and I realize and appreciate how lucky I am to be able to say that.
And maybe your wondering why New York City? While I was born and raised in Marshfield, and that's where I live now with my family, New York City, (Brooklyn specifically), is really where I "grew up". I spent five years teaching middle school and living in Brooklyn... where my students taught me more about life than I could have ever learned sitting in a classroom. I made life long friends and experienced so may joys and losses in a relatively short period of time. Boston is my home, but New York will always have a very special place in my heart. Running there is my own way of saying "thank you" to a city that taught me so much.
Please support my fundraising to honor my sweet friend, Lauren, and to support families that are working through the unthinkable. I have a HUGE goal and any bit helps. Please read below to see some of the incredible work that ONE MISSION does.
Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me.

About One Mission
One Mission is a pediatric cancer charity that does whatever it takes to get kids through cancer. One Mission programs make living in the hospital less lonely and stressful, bring back joy in a time of fear and uncertainty, and give kids and their loved ones the support they need to get through the emotional and financial challenges of treatment.
Few things are more devastating than hearing the news that your child has cancer. Children and parents are thrust into a frightening situation for which they are totally unprepared. The founders of One Mission, Ashley and Ari Haseotes, understand full well the devastating impact of pediatric cancer. One Mission was born out of their own family’s journey with cancer. At seven months old their son was diagnosed with AML, a rare form of leukemia. They spent six months living at Boston Children’s Hospital, their lives turned upside down. Thanks to the compassionate care and expert treatment their son received, today he is cancer-free. During their journey, they identified many ways life could be improved for patients and families during treatment and hospitalization. Their experience inspired them to start a foundation that would address those needs and make life easier for pediatric cancer patients and their families.
