Moms for Strongmom
Organized by: Lauren DiMaulo
EVENT DATE Jun 18, 2016
On June 18th I will be participating in the Wyckoff/Franklin Lakes Triathlon. I will swim 1/2 mile, bike 17 miles and then run 5 miles. (The very thought of it makes me nauseous.) The decision to finally commit to the Triathlon was a difficult one. I asked myself if it was really worth it, and that is when I decided I would make it worth it by using it as an opportunity to fundraise for StrongMom. StrongMom was created to support Kerrie Prettitore's family, her husband Glenn, son Liam(3rd grade) and daughters Fiona(2nd grade) and Maeve(kindergarten). Kerrie was diagnosed with colon cancer in February 2014 and subsequently had successful surgery to remove the tumor. Only after a single chemotherapy treatment Kerrie became acutely ill and it was discovered she had a DPD deficiency which prevented her body from breaking down the chemotherapy drugs she received. While at first Kerrie's doctors gave her no chance at survival, she has continuously proven them wrong. Two years later, Kerrie is now at The Ridgewood Center where she also receives therapies and continues to fight on. Strongmom.org raises funds which go directly to the Prettitore family to help with the medical, legal and living expenses associated with Kerrie's illness.
Please visit www.StrongMom.org to read more about DPD Deficiency and about Kerrie's Story and Progress Reports from Glenn. THANK YOU for supporting me on my personal challenge to complete the triathlon by supporting this amazing family.
