Fegely Middle School is working to raise funds to buy the book "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio for every student and staff member to read this fall, which would enable us to participate in the "One School/One Book" program. One School/One Book is an initiative in which the entire school, students and staff alike, read the same novel at the same time. Having adults and students exchange ideas about literature is very powerful. It creates a bond between kids, parents, and staff and a positive atmosphere for reading. It is designed to encourage students to read, engage in school-wide conversation, reach our community through student and parent involvement, and begin to establish a culture of literacy in the homes of our students. Furthermore, research shows that this program can even help address low literacy rates and prevent high school drop outs.
