BENEFITING: BRIDGE MINISTRIES INC
Bridge was founded by a team from Hilltop Community Church in April 2006, as a partnership with Mathare Community Outreach, a school and orphanage serving the children of the Mathare Valley slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Africans consider Mathare the worst slum in Africa. In the site of an old pit mine, over 600,000 people live in tin and mud shanties with no public services of any kind.
The mission of Bridge Ministries is "to comfort and encourage the children of the Mathare Valley, the poorest of the poor, by working with local believers to meet their basic physical needs, to educate these children so they might one day be able to meet their own needs, and to build relationships on both sides of our bridge based on our shared faith in Jesus Christ, all for the glory of God."
Bridge currently runs a child welfare and Biashara (business in Swahili) ministry.
Emily's Volunteer Work
In October, I will begin a 6 month trip to Nairobi, Kenya where I will work as a volunteer with One Life Africa. The mission of One Life Africa is "To provide education scholarships to bright but needy students, mentor them through life decisions and equip them to serve Christ in their communities." I'm blessed to have the time, freedom, and the opportunity to serve with such incredible people and such an amazing organization. For more information about all the God is accomplishing there please go to: www.onelifeafrica.com.
I recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University with my bachelors in Business - Marketing and Philosophy. I have a passion for international relations, education, and business. I have been so priveledged to have been able to attend such an incredible univeristy and I am now excited to use some of this newfound knowledge to serve some of the most needy.
I will be helping with the business aspects of One Life Africa as well as to set up an exchange/internship program for the organization. I have been working this summer to save up but, with student loan payments beginning I would greatly appreciate your support. The major costs I will be incurring are for my flight, food & utilities, and vaccines & medications.
If you would like to follow my journey, I will be updating my (first) blog regularly: euhland.wordpress.com. This will be a huge learning experience but if you feel led to support me either financially or with prayer I will be eternally grateful. Thank you for partnering with me on this journey!
