BENEFITING: Off The Mat, Into The World

EVENT DATE: Oct 02, 2015

Jennifer Mohamed

One Love New Jersey is a visionary movement in the central New Jersey area founded by Jennifer Mohamed to bring people together in community to heighten awareness, have fun, and raise significant funds to support human rights initiatives. Our current team members include Jen, Kim Dezutel and David See.

We work with Off the Mat, Into the World and The Village Cooperative to make donations and offer personal service to specific projects benefiting people in crisis. We embrace an integration of social, environmental, and economic principles to foster green economies around the world as a way to alleviate human rights violations and create a more balanced socially-inclusive global community...of which we are all a part.

The Global Seva Challenge 2015 is focused on raising awareness and providing support to girls facing female genital mutilation (FGM) and early childhood marriage (ECM) in Kenya. FGM is rooted in gender inequality and deeply rooted tradition. It involves the cutting, typically with a basic razor blade without anesthesia, of the female genitalia as a means to control female sexuality and impose beliefs about female purity, chastity, and honor. Complications are common and include recurrent infections, enduring physical limitations, chronic pain, an inability to get pregnant, complications during childbirth, and fatal bleeding. Although outlawed in many countries, it remains prevelant throughout Africa, depriving girls of their inalienable rights to dignity, liberty, security of person, and equality before the law.

"Power Fusion Kenya"

We are organizing a fundraiser at the inspiring DIG Yoga (Lambertville, New Jersey). Power Fusion Kenya will be a one hour mixed-level class combining yoga, meditation, and inspiration co-led by Jen and Kim. After class Jen will give a short presentation on international human rights and show slides from her prior service mission to India focusing on the issue of human trafficking and answer questions.  To round out the dynamic, there will be live music (hopefully!), refreshments, OTM t-shirt sales & great raffle items.

Details: Friday, October 2, 2015, 7-9pm; Minimum $30 donation per person; your donation here will be your ticket to the event (please include your name). Cash or checks payable to "Off the Mat, Into the World" will be accepted at the door.

Whether you are near or far, practice yoga or not, please donate and be part of our fundraising campaign to bring love and light to girls in need. Just say YES, be part of the MAGIC, and imagine the DIFFERENCE a difference can make!
